Statement of Support J.M. “Smokie”Phillips, Jr.
“As many in the minority communities have growing concerns, these red light cameras have reduced red-light running and dangerous crashes at the intersections where they have been installed potentially saving thousand of lives, traveling families, property losses and the motoring public. As deputy sheriff patrolman years ago I was struck by a red-light runner, although I was slightly injured and the patrol vehicle incurred significant damage. I have observed many who have suffered serious injuries, death and total vehicle property loss as a result of a red light runner. Red light cameras raise awareness, Houston needs safer roadways. Join me and other local police unions in supporting red-light cameras.”
