Letter of Support from Ann Williams

Ann Williams
Board of Trustees

Earnest Walker
Keep Houston Safe PAC

Dear Earnest Walker,

I would like to thank you for attending Alief ISD school board meeting during the month of June. Your presentation on the "Keep Houston Safe" initiative was quite compelling.

As you know there are many organizations who vie for the support of school board members. While it is flattering to extend ones influence under the auspices of safety, it is more admirable to do so in consideration of the students, parents and community we represent.

After in-depth research within Keep Houston Safe website, I found the number of individuals injured and killed from drivers running through red traffic signals alarming. The law of red lights at intersection has been established to protect the lives of other drivers; but there seems to be a culture of disobeying this law. Given the rise in violations and the number of death of teens killed within the Alief area, I agree there must be an enforcement of this law; the use of cameras at signal lights seems to be the logical option.

As one reporters stated “driving is not a right it is a privilege”, and having such a privilege, drivers should take the responsibility of obeying the laws. That is why I believe it is honorable to support Keep Houston Safe and its efforts to promote intersection safety cameras. This initiative will not only keep Houston Safe but inclusive to keeping Alief students and its’ community safe as well.

Sincerely,
Ann Williams
