"The cameras have protected my life from people who disrespect a light turning red. The number of people who run the red lights have been cut by approximately 90%. THANKS!!!" - Henriette
"I was t-boned by a red light runner at S. Dairy Ashford and Bellaire. To add to my frustration, the ADA at Municipal Court who supoened me when the driver fought the ticket tried to talk me out of testifying. The trial was postponed twice, and at the third try, a different ADA tried again to talk me out of testifying. When he saw I was determined to testify, the driver finally paid the fine. Whose side are the ADA's on? Keep up the good work." - Betty
"I learned of this through the Keep Houston Safe political ad in the mail. I have seen so many people flagrantly run red lights it is a wonder there are not more accidents than there are. The cameras make people more aware and helps stop the law breakers. Also the fines must be able to be reinforced." - Fred
"My wife and I were hit in our car at Gessner and I 10 by a red light runner. This happened in October of 2006. The impact broke my left hip which was artifical." - Harry
"It was only a near miss. A lady on her cell phone ran a light. I don't know if her light was yellow or red, but my light had just turned green. It was close, and it scared me a little bit, but it all turned out OK. It could have been a lot worse." - Paul
"I got a flyer in the mail. We need red light cameras. They make drivers pay attention. If there is a camera at an intersection, drivers do not run the lights. I see it happen." - Hazel
"In the fall of 2005, returning from a night of dinner and dancing, I was hit by a driver who blew through the red light on the service road at San Felipe and 610. The impact nearly cut my truck in two." - Roger
"I support the Intersection Safety Cameras and wish the fines were higher and/or more strictly enforced. As a Realtor I am on the road alot and see red-light runners constantly. Too bad they can’t be at all or most intersections." - Carol
"I am 100% for the traffic cameras. I think the one by our Subdivision has helped. ( I-45 and West Rd. )
It seems to me that the people are paying more attention to it than they did when it first went in. I hope they are here to stay." - Paul
"Appreciate our officers so very much and applaud the support for red light cameras. We old folks at Warwick Towers would appreciate one at Fannin and Hermann as drivers take a left from Fannin often during the day and of course that is a no-never intersection." - Leigh
"My story of an intersection event came out fine, but I wish the intersection had had cameras to record the near miss. It happened at W. Bellfort and Chimney Rock which is a big wide dangerous intersection without red light cameras. I was preparing to make a left turn when I saw that the car coming at me was not going to stop even though I had a green arrow. I just knew the driver was oblivious to his/her red light. So I stopped in the intersection. I was rear ended, not too much damage. Either I was going to be hit by the oncoming day dreaming driver or the person behind me would have been. The oncoming driver stopped in the middle of the intersection, finally. She looked quite surprised that she had run a red light. No one was hurt. It was a miracle." - Hazel
"Red light runners are breaking the law 'plain and simple' and their lawless behavior can cause preventable collisions, expensive property damage, painful injuries, and in some cases even death." - Stuart
"Keep up the good work!" - Emily
"In the fall of 2005, returning from a night of dinner and dancing, I was hit by a driver who blew through the red light on the service road at San Felipe and 610. The impact nearly cut my truck in two." - Roger
"My friends and I were waiting at a red light on Mid Lane at the intersection of Westheimer and
Mid Lane near 610. There was a small sedan sitting across from us also waiting for the light to
turn green. The light turns green and the sedan enters the intersection. To my right, I see a
white Ford pick-up truck on Westheimer heading towards the intersection at full speed and never
appears to slow down. The truck hits the rear half of the sedan and cuts the smaller car in two.
The front half of the sedan is sent spinning across the intersection. The truck sits for maybe 2
seconds and takes off. We get out and carefully pull the passengers out of what was left of the
front part of the sedan.
Fortunately, there was no one in the back seat or they would have probably
been killed. The passengers were hit so hard they didn't remember the collision. They just woke up
dazed on the sidewalk. The rear portion of their sedan was almost completely pancaked. If there was
a safety camera at that corner, that wreckless (and probably drunk) driver who almost KILLED two
people would have been caught." - Norman
"So there I was, sitting behind a driver in the back seat as a passenger. We were on Garrett Road,
at the intersection of Beltway 8. We were in the left hand lane and the light turned green. The
car to the right of us procceded in traffic as soon as the light turned green, for some reason,
the driver of the car that I was in hesitated. A full size Ford pick-up slmmed full speed into
the driver to the right of us. I witnessed the car fly up into the air and spin upon impact. It
landed in the median of Beltway 8. The real axle of the car was in the intersection. The driver
of the car who was hit suffered serious injuries, including a shattered hip. I couldn't beleive
it happened right in front of me! Crazy drivers, they teach you in drivers education to
stop on red. Common sense." - David
"The summer of 2009 I was hit by someone running a red light on Yale and Center Street near the
Heights. What made this event so unfortunate is that the driver denied the red light, and there
were no witnesses. This accident could have been completely preventable. If there had been
intersection safety cameras, I would have at least had proof of his actions." - Ember
