Friday night vigil honors fallen bicyclists
Bicycling community plans to address city council

Tampa's cycling community held a vigil Friday night and addressed the issues surrounding a number of deadly accidents. Six bicyclists in the Tampa Bay area have been killed in the last two months.

She loved the beach and books and she loved riding her bike, which is what she was doing Friday morning.
Police say Josefina Rodriguez ran a red light, spun out of control and killed Vega instantly, Edward Collins knows that pain all too well.
“The driver who killed my father has not been cited,” Collins said.
“If I jay walk in the city I might issued a ticket. If i'm a cyclist and I run a stop sign, I might be issued a ticket. But if I kill a pedestrian, I'm not issued a ticket?” he asked.
The group planned to go before city council, they remembered the dead, and they rode in solidarity hoping to send a message.
“People should be more respectful and more mindful really because even just being aware brings a lot more attention when you're actually driving on the street,” Collins said.
